About Our School

Located in beautiful, historic Bucks County, approximately 25 miles north of Philadelphia and 15 miles west of Princeton, New Jersey, the Council Rock School District has an approximate population of 70,000.  The district, primarily a suburban-residential community, is comprised of 72 square miles; serves the municipalities of Newtown Borough, Newtown Township, Northampton Township, Upper Makefield Township, and Wrightstown Township; and has a student population of over 12,000.  The communities have a rich history and take pride in the school’s tradition of academic, athletic, and cultural achievements. 

Newtown Middle School serves families from Newtown Borough, Newtown Township, Upper Makefield Township, and Wrightstown Township, and presently enrolls approximately 900 students in grades seven and eight. More than seventy-five professional staff and twenty-five support staff employees are committed to creating a conducive learning environment for all students.  Newtown Middle School has a distinguished history and an exciting future.

Newtown Middle School prides itself on providing a challenging and rigorous academic program while meeting the many social and emotional needs of the early adolescent. Through the implementation of numerous student support services and a varied co-curricular program, all students are encouraged to achieve success.  Newtown Middle School offers the following honors courses to 7th and 8th graders:  Honors English, Honors Social Studies, Honors Science, and Honors Math.  Our gifted program is run through our Social Studies department.  Newtown Middle School offers the following gifted courses:  Humanities (7 & 8).

Newtown Middle School fosters a relationship with parents that includes them as partners in their children’s education. Daytime and evening programs invite parents into the process of guiding their child’s education. Through an active PTA program, many families have formalized their relationship with the school.

Newtown Middle School has been the recipient of numerous academic, athletic and community awards. Some of these include: Academics (PSSA Incentive Award of $28,000 in 2002; PSSA Maintenance of High Standards Award of $20,000 in 2001; PSSA Effort Award of $19,000 in 2001); Math (MathCounts Bucks County Champions, Pennsylvania Math League Champions); Music ( Superior Ratings, Excellent Ratings, and Corps de Esprit Awards); Computers (College of New Jersey Champions); Athletics (Boys Basketball Champions; Girls Basketball Champions; Undefeated Teams – Football; Girls Basketball; Field Hockey; Girls Soccer, Boys Soccer); Service (March of Dimes – Top Fund-raiser in Bucks County & S.E. PA since 1983 raising over $125,000 since 1992, M.S. Read-a-thon raising over $15,000 since 1992).

These are just a few of the many awards presented to the school in recognition of outstanding accomplishments in the areas of academics, co-curricular and service.  

Selected as a Pennsylvania Blue Ribbon School in 1998, Newtown Middle School continues its long and proud tradition of creating a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment that meets the needs of all of our children, a place where our children will grow to their fullest potential, ensuring their participation as lifelong learners and productive citizens.  The collaborative efforts of staff, parents, students, and the community will support and encourage our children as they aim for excellence.
